How Cyprus has turn into an island of missing dreams for some

With its warm local climate Cyprus grew to become the ideal position for a vacation household or area to retire. But the collapse of the banks robbed …

  1. The rot began when they adopted the Euro,Cypriot Pound bought cheap spectacles and the like.On adoption of the Euro the Cypriots jacked up prices on everything by at least 25 to 30 % ,it killed off the Ophthalmic industry.Still a good place to holiday,we still go twice a year as we have for the last twenty.Just glad we never made the plunge and bought a property out there. Dont get me started on the Ruskies,747 brings them in twice a week for about £90 return, they spend nowt but swan around like they own the Island ,ordinary Cypriots such as restaurant owners and shopkeepers see no money from them, wont even pay for a sunbed, end up getting turfed off the beach.

  2. Brits abroad make me chuckle…always looking for a shop that sells the Sun newspaper, and fish & chips.
No wonder the banksters shit on you.

  3. I wonder if all the politicians and banksters opened up foreign bank accounts before the onslaught of this legalised theft!

  4. Buy what is already developed and preferably what's in front of it is already developed then you won't see something that wasn't there before 😉

  5. Yes talk about thick 😱 do people not ask for professional advice before all there savings are gon as you can watch 100ds on YouTube about disasters in these ways and planning etc

  6. Buying abroad is a risk. Anyone should know that by now. And many have had their dreams shattered. This video was from 2013, 7 years ago. How is it now? Did the belgian couple leave? Or did they get their house done? I have been to Cyprus, I liked it. But I wouldn't buy there.

  7. The problem was not Cyprus itself. The problem was with Cyprus's Greek bank! When Greece collapsed, it took the bank with it! If they had their money in other banks (not the ubiquitous Greek bank) they would have been alright.

  8. The fundanenral problem is the Greeks do not Have their Own central banks to bailout retail banks. The greatest fundamental problen with the Euro and a ECB run by richer European countries. Covid19 is about to Create a huge problem as Retail banks go bust because of bad debts in the form of mortgage defaults and business loans.

  9. I live in Cy & unfortunately lived through this scam, we all went to sleep on Friday night as normal, only to wake up on Saturday morning to find out the 2nd largest bank has closed. The big boys knew about it closing, so transfered all their cash and left the normal citizen in the dark, thanks to Germany/EU this was the first time in history(if I'm not mistaken) where depositors got bailed in, lost everything above €100,000. Long story short it shut down the economy for roughly 3yrs.

  10. i bought an apartment in cyprus with a mortgage. I will highly recommend NOT to buy in Cyprus for many reasons which are not all explained in that video. I am in a process to sell it and it takes for ever. I am selling with a loss, of course. but I deem myself very fortunate compared to what happened to other expats. This has become a place only fit for locals and should remain like that.
